| Milow The Girl’s Event To Raise Money For The Humane Society Of The United States |
On June 26, international singer/songwriter Milow the Girl and fans will celebrate the release of her album “Days of Power” inside the Key Club’s VIP room in West Hollywood, California. The event is scheduled from 4:00-7:00PM with performances beginning at 5:00PM. Seventy-five percent of ticket sales will go to raise money for The Humane Society of the United States campaign to stop puppy mills. The event is open to the public but has limited tickets available. The HSUS is the nation’s largest and most effective animal protection organization.
The full line-up for the event includes special guests Realize Records recording artist, Kim Cameron of the band Side FX, Jimmy Sweet of L.U.V. and formerly of Hot Hot Heat, along with a special appearance by the dancers from Milow the Girl’s latest music video and celebrity musicians.
Milow the Girl stated,”Puppy mills are the perfect example of the kind of horror humans are capable of; the fact that puppy mills exist and continue in almost total impunity is unacceptable. I’m extremely appreciative for the opportunity to work in conjunction with The Humane Society of the United States”. Documented puppy mill conditions include over-breeding, inbreeding, minimal veterinary care, poor food and shelter, crowded cages and lack of socialization. Dogs kept for breeding in puppy mills suffer for years in continual confinement. They are bred as often as possible and then destroyed or discarded once they can no longer produce puppies. Pet stores and online sellers often use attractive Web sites to hide the truth and to dupe consumers into thinking that they are dealing with a small, reputable breeder.
“We’re so grateful to Milow the Girl for her support and for helping to bring attention to the cruelty in puppy mills” said Stephanie Shain, Senior Director of The HSUS’s Puppy Mill campaign. “In the past year alone, The Humane Society of the United States has helped pass over a dozen laws to help dogs in puppy mills, we’ve rescued thousands of dogs from puppy mills, and we’ve educated the public through our investigations of pet stores and internet sellers of puppies “
Tickets to the event are limited and available for purchase now at http://milowthegirlhumanesociety.eventbrite.com . The Key Club is located at 9039 West Sunset Blvd West Hollywood, CA in between Doheny Dr and Wetherly Dr. For more information on Milow the Girl you can visit www.milowthegirl.com or www.realizerecords.com. | Michelle Carter-Leis Inks Deal With Canadian Clothing Label Narcissist |
|
Realize Records announced today that their Canadian artist Michelle Carter- Leis has inked a deal with growing Canadian Clothing Label Narcissist. The design company was recently chosen to be the official apparel sponsor for Entertainment Tonight Canada at their Festival Central venue in Yorkville as part of the Toronto International Film Festival.
The Narcissist label, whose tagline states Love who you are, has been evolving from a Canadian clothing line into a international company with such designs as the 12-in-1 Pamela dress. Carter-Leis and the Company share similar views on business and the world, agreeing that we can all make choices that contribute to making it a better place. The Narcissist label is not about self-obsession, but rather self-love. President and Creative Director, Tracey Copeman and Head designer, Hannah Fletcher are obsessive about their garments and how they fit women to flatter their best features. They believe women tend to be highly critical of themselves; and are taking steps to change that.
Tracey Copeman, President and creative Director of Narcissist, says, "Over the past few weeks, we have grown to know and love Michelle. She looks stunning in our designs and I can’t think of a better woman to represent our brand." Singer/songwriter Carter-Leis is currently in pre-production and splitting her time between Canada, Los Angeles and Philadelphia. “I am very excited to be working with Narcissist, their designs are refreshingly unique yet simple which allows them to be classic and timeless, I am madly in love!” Michelle is scheduled to begin touring in the U.S. with her new CD and band in early 2010. The tour will feature clothing from the Narcissist Line.
Narcissist is a Vancouver based, Canadian designer label offering a clean, modern style that finds a perfect balance between style and comfort. Narcissist creates pieces for the independent, confident and stylish woman. Her clothes are simple yet stylish, reflecting her sophistication and modern taste. She feels good in the clothes she wears and she loves who she is. Conceit? No way! Just confidence. The Narcissist label is realizing new success as a forward-looking Canadian fashion brand. The line is available online, in boutiques across Canada and select cities throughout the United States.

| Realize Records Signs Deal With Canadian Songbird Michelle Carter-Leis |
|
Realize Records has inked a deal with singer/songwriter Michelle Carter-Leis. Michelle Carter Carter-Leis, a Vancouver, BC native, was discovered via Sonicbids in early 2009.
"I am so excited about working with this amazing team at Realize Records. Every person I’ve met and worked with so far has been truly wonderful, kind, professional, and committed to creating great music." The musical sound of Michelle Carter-Leis can best be described as sultry modern pop with nuances of contemporary Jazz. Michelle’s bold charismatic performance is carried by a base of clean vocals with soaring angelic notes. Her powerful tone balances between soulful highs and melodic lows that permeate to the core of human experience. The rare purity of her voice ignites a sense of romantic idealism.
Carter-Leis’ musical journey began as a young child, taking an interest in singing as early as age 3. She started her classical training at age 11 and continued until age 20. Carter-Leis attended Douglas College and studied privately at University of British Colombia with renowned opera teacher David Meek. Carter-Leis was selected to attend the Banff Center of the Arts voice intensive with Richard Armstrong in Alberta. Michelle states, "That workshop was influential in my transition from opera and classical music to writing my own music. The transition from student to artist was easy because I had always written my own songs as well throughout my studies." In 1999 Michelle auditioned for a new House/Ambient ensemble that became known as Mercury Sound Cartel. She performed and wrote with them for the next six years, leading to repeat song inclusion on the hit show "The L Word", as well as licensed songs for film and commercials. After the band disbanded Carter-Leis went solo and independently released her debut CD "Glass" in 2005. That recording led to performances at high profile venues in Los Angeles, Winterfolk V, New Music West festival and opening slots for such acts as Lucas Rossi and Trulio Disgracious.
Michelle Carter-Leis is scheduled to enter the studio in 2009 to record her debut CD with Realize Records. A&R rep Erica Scott states, "I think Michelle Carter-Leis is the perfect addition to the Realize Records label. She is a lovely person with an extraordinary depth of talent and an amazing sense of what works. She expresses herself freely in a fun refreshing way and always has an interesting story to share."

| Former Local Musician Paul Lewis Returns Bringing A Festival And Final Ynot Reunion Performance With |
|
The Unicity Performing Arts Festival announced today that the band YNOT! will reunite on May 16th for their final performance as a group. The band launched their career in Salisbury in the late eighties as a group of college students from Salisbury State University. Paul Lewis, one of the producers of the Unicity Performing Arts Festival and front man of the band says, “This was the perfect way to come full circle as a band. We started here and we will end here.”
YNOT’s potent mix of melody, no-nonsense lyrics, passion, and delivery coupled with a visual element that highlights front man Paul Lewis` ability to make sure no one stands still made them a serious contender on both college radio and pop charts. They transposed themselves into one of the regions most acclaimed acts - fans frenetically battled for dance space in venues from Manhattan to the Carolinas. YNOT! was among an endangered breed of musicians; it is often difficult to consistently lure fans to hear an all original sets, untrue for this band. In fact, YNOT?! took it a step beyond to become one of the only acts to consistently sell out venues. “YNOT! was all about having a good time, as our fans know, so we are excited to bring that energy back to Salisbury for the festival.”, states Lewis.
Lewis, a big supporter of the local area and performers found the timing perfect to bring the festival to Salisbury. “Things are really tough right now so we wanted to infuse the area with energy, creativity and business.” says Lewis. “The festival is all about coming together and the event is a nice escape for families and friends.” Lewis, who grew up in Salisbury, who is a producer and recording artist left the area to launch a solo career in Los Angeles in the late 90’s. After two cds, one of which received six first round Grammy nominations, he returned to the East Coast with a mission to help other artists further their career and the communities that had helped him launch his own career.
YNOT! will perform on The Celebrity stage on May 16th at 9:00PM. The line-up will also feature some special guests including Maryland local and long time musician Kelly Bell. The Kelly Bell Band will be performing on the same stage at 8:00PM. Tickets for the festival are $15.00 and are on sale now. You can purchase tickets online at www.unicityfestival.com or by calling 302.373.1078.
The Unicity Performing Arts Festival’s goal is to unite different races, sexes and cultures through the diversity of the performing arts. The festival brought in part to you by Wicomico Recreation, Parks & Tourism, is a collage of all types of performing artists from classical musicians to punk rock bands, featuring ballet dancers to street hip hop artists. Poets, actors, comedians, everything and anything goes. The event is a two day fusion of nonstop performing artists, unbelievable food and drinks all leading up to shows featuring national acts. This year’s festival will take place on 110 Acres in Winterplace Park in Salisbury, MD on May 15th & 16th. FOR LOCAL PRESS INQUIRIES/INTERVIEWS, CONTACT INFO@UNICITYFESTIVAL.COM OR 302.373.1078 ###

Janice Kamalski will be performing new material from her debut CD, “I’m Not Playin” at the Premier Centre for the Arts Black Box Theatre October 25th 2008 at 8:00PM. The show will also feature New York comedienne Joanne Filan. "I’m Not Playin” gives a look into a working mother’s daily life. Kamalski delivers with sharp wit while saying things out loud in regards to family and work life that we all think of saying but never do. She takes the façade of the perfect family life and throws it out the window and that is exactly what makes Kamalski so likeable and hilarious. Hailing from New Castle, Delaware, Kamalski broke into comedy by accepting a last minute challenge to perform in Cherry Hill, NJ for Nickelodeon’s Funniest Mom in America contest, Kamalski found her calling. Janice says, “I was nervous before I went up on stage and then as soon as I got up there, it was gone. I felt completely comfortable like I had been doing it for years.” The contest led her to begin performing in clubs and open mics around the Philadelphia area. Discovered at an open mic competition, Kamalski a Middletown resident has been gearing up for the release of her cd by testing material while doing short tours. Most recently Janice performed at clubs throughout England and while in Las Vegas was invited onstage by comic Louis Anderson. | Recording Artist Paul Lewis Leads All Star Cast In Interactive Rocky Horror Show |
|
Premier Centre for the Arts will present The Rocky Horror Picture beginning on October 26th running though November 15th in the Black Box Theatre. This will mark Realize Records Recording Artist Paul Lewis’s return to theater portraying the maniacal Dr. Frank-N-Furter.
Lewis, who majored in theater at Salisbury University, returns to the stage after a long hiatus. After starring in such shows as Streetcar Named Desire, Equus, Cabaret and numerous others he was asked to audition and then ultimately became the front man for the successful 90’s band YNOT! Lewis went on to become a solo artist and continues to perform and record. Critics and fans alike often refer to Lewis’ onstage theatrics, infectious energy and impassioned vocals as to a few of the things that make him such a powerful entertainer. While casting the up coming Rocky Horror Picture show, Director Fred Munzert felt those exact qualities were what he needed for Dr. Frank-N-Furter. “Paul performs Frank with a freakishly natural ease. His energy breaths a life into this show that will make it one to remember.” says Munzert. The show will be a high energy, interactive cabaret style that also features an al lstar cast and a live band. The audience is encouraged to come in costume if they want but it not a requirement. “I first saw RHPS when I was in eleventh grade and I was hooked. I wanted to have the opportunity to play that character. I finally get my chance.” Rocky Horror Picture Show is a cult classic that originated as a musical on a London Stage in 1973. The show tells the story of two clean cut kids, Brad Majors and Janet Weiss, who run into car trouble and seek help at the site of light down the road. Little do they know it`s coming from the place where Dr. Frank-N-Furter is in the midst of his maniacal experiments. The play is a rock musical, a spoof of science fiction & horror movies, and a bizarre story of seduction and sexual confusion. The show will take place at The Black Box Theatre inside Premier Centre for the Arts beginning on October 26th with a matinee at 2:00PM & November 1, 7, 8, 14, 15 at 8:00 pm, October 26, November 2, 9 at 7:00 pm.Tickets for the show are $20 and can be purchased at www.pca-de.com via phone by calling302.378.1384 or in person at Premier Centre for the Arts. | Director John Waters To Open The Unicity Performing Arts Festival |
|
Director John Waters To Open The Unicity Performing Arts Festival Unicity Performing Arts Festival scheduled to take place in Middletown, DE on August 2 2008 has just announced that critically acclaimed director John Waters will open the festival with his lecture “This Filthy World”. John Waters over a period of more than 30 years, has grown from a local boy making cheap, underground movies in Baltimore, MD to a local man making counter-culture Hollywood comedies. Waters’ road has been paved with varied reviews from getting arrested for “conspiracy to commit indecent exposure” on one of his earlier films, MondoTrasho to being nominated for the Sundance Grand JuryPrize and Independent Spirit Award for his original movie Hairspray. Waters writes all his own films, and the basic elements of filth and debauchery still exist in his screenplays -just in a more palatable fashion. John is also an accomplished writer and photographer. He has published two volumes of his journalistic exploits, one screenplay collection, and a great big book of pictures he took of his television. In May 2008, the Broadway musical Cry Baby based on Water’s movie of the same name garnered four Tony nominations including Best Musical. This is Waters’second movie turned Broadway musical with great success. John Waters’ one-man show is a“vaudeville” act that celebrates the film career and obsessional tastes of the man William Burroughs once called “The Pope of Trash.” Focusing in on Waters’ early negative artistic influences and his fascination with true crime, exploitation films, fashion lunacy, and the extremes of the contemporary art world, this joyously devious monologue elevates all that is trashy in life into a call to arms to “filth followers” everywhere. Tickets are on sale now. Tickets for John Waters: “This Filthy World” and access to the festival are selling for $35.00. | Comedienne/Actress Sandra Bernhard To Be Featured At The Unicity Festival Lineup |
|
Unicity Performing Arts Festival scheduled to take place in Middletown, DE on August 2 2008 has just announced that Sandra Bernhard will be a featured performer at the first annual festival. For 25 years, Sandra Bernhard has been challenging fans and critics with her knife-edged humor, satire and emotive performances on film, television and stage. Her critically acclaimed 1998, one-woman Broadway hit, “I’m Still Here...Damn It!” which played the Booth Theater, had critics raving. Created and conceived by Bernhard, the show first ran for five months off-Broadway at New York’s Westbeth Theatre, where it garnered ecstatic reviews. The New York Times called Bernhard’s performance: “An angst driven, foul-mouthed poison-laced joy ridethat banks and careens frenetically through the worlds of fashion, celebrity, rock, and religion … In her own voice, unfiltered, Bernhard is a living, breathing bonfire.” "Sandra is such a fearless entertainer. She represents all of the qualities that we revere and we are extremely excited to have her on board.”says Michel Grey, UPAF’s Talent Buyer. Since her first film accolades in 1983 in Martin Scorseses’, “The King of Comedy” featuring Jerry Lewis and Robert DeNiro, Bernhard has since appeared in numerous films including “Inside Monkey Zetterland,” “Hudson Hawk” and more recently, “Dinner Rush.” Throughout her career, Bernhard’s formidable presence has also had a place on television. From1991-1996, she portrayed Nancy on“Roseanne,” and has had guest starring roles on “Ally McBeal,” “Chicago Hope”and “Will & Grace.” She has appeared on “Late Night with David Letterman,”as well as “The Tonight Show,” “Rosie O’Donnell” and “The View.” She hosted the season premiere of “MadTV” and the Bravo network recently profiled her career. In 2001, Bernhard hosted her own talk show, “The Sandra Bernhard Experience”for A&E television. UPAF’s, Festival Director Fred Munzert says, “Sandra’sability to engage so many circles of the entertainment industry into one careerhas given her a perspective on reality that keeps us all in blissful hysteria." The festival will be the first of its kind in the area and feature some of the countries finest musical ensembles, bands, dance troupes and performance artists from all over the country. The festival is a collage of all types of performing artists from classical musicians to punk rock bands, featuring ballet dancers to street hip hop artists. | Unicity To Feature The Fixx To Close Out The Festival |
|
Unicity Performing Arts Festival scheduled to take place in Middletown, DE on August 2 2008 has just announced that The Fixx will be closing out the first annual festival. Renowned for hits like "One Thing Leads To Another," "Stand or Fall"and "Saved By Zero," England’s the Fixx have seen a resurgence of interest with the release of several hits collections & live recordings. The Fixx have always been heralded as one of the most innovative and unique bands to come out of the MTV era. The group’s lyrics and melodies are artistic statements of darkness and light, painting aural soundscapes that arecerebral, yet touch the heart. The Fixx’s themes are complex, often introspective and thought-provoking, and yet the band’s musical legacy has appealed to the masses with three No. 1 hits, five Top-5 hits, a dozen Top-10hits, millions of albums sold worldwide, and countless sold-out tours. "The 80’s are now all the rage with teenagers, this is a unprecedented opportunity for both the original fans of The Fixx and the new fans just discovering them to experience a performance together.", says Michel Grey, UPAF’s Talent Buyer. The Fixx’s sound is instantly recognizable. Songs like"One Thing Leads to Another" and "Red Skies (at Night)"remain staples, not just with classic rock radio stations, but on modern-rock formats that have helped break new wave-inspired acts a quarter of a century later. It is rare for audiences to experience a band that has been together for 25 years. The Fixx were - and still are - Cy Curnin on lead vocals, guitarist Jamie West-Oram, keyboardist Rupert Greenall and drummer Adam Woods, and they bring this unique experience and perspective into the studio and on the road as the Fixx continue making innovative music. Their greatest Hits compilation ’OneThing Leads To Another’ has now sold more than two million in the U.S and The Fixx plan to release a new studio album this year. UPAFs, Festival Director Fred Munzert says, “"The Fixx coming to Middletown, Delaware will resound as a historical event in our state for years to come." The festival will be the first of its kind in the area and feature some of the countries finest musical ensembles, bands, dance troupes and performance artists from all over the country.
